“Dancing with Myself” is a song by the band Generation X, first released as a single and a 12” in 1980 and incorporated a few weeks after the single release into the band’s last album, 1981’s Kiss Me Deadly. It would become the group’s greatest hit, but did not enjoy much success when it was first released. “Dancing with Myself” was Billy Idol solo recording and hit, even though it was first released as a Gen X effort. In 1981, Billy Idol remixed and re-released the song as a solo recording, having its crunchy guitar sound toned down and given an overall brighter, poppier finish.
