“To Love Somebody” is the second single released by the Bee Gees from their third LP, Bee Gees 1st. As stated many times by Barry Gibb, their manager Robert Stigwood wanted Barry to write a soul song for Otis Redding. Barry, along with Robin wrote “To Love Somebody”, a soulful ballad in the style of Sam & Dave or The Rascals. However, Redding died in an airplane crash before he could record the song. The song was written on a boat in Monte Carlo the day the Beatles manager, Brian Epstein was found dead (August 1967). The Bee Gees heard the news from Robert Stigwood’s assistant. Read on...
