The song was written and produced by Max Martin, while co-produced by Denniz Pop and Rami, for Spears debut studio album ...Baby One More Time (1999). It was released on October 23, 1998 through Jive Records, as Spears debut single of her career, and as the first single from the album. The teen pop song, speaks about a girl who regrets breaking up with her boyfriend, and wants him back. The track opens with an intro in which Spears says the phrase “Oh baby baby”, that was later used in several singles, such as “Oops!...
