“Eye Know” is a single from De La Soul’s landmark album 3 Feet High and Rising. It peaked at number 14 on the UK singles chart. It was not released as a single in the United States.
Released during rap’s Golden Age of 1986-1992, the song is an upbeat, feel-good love jam featuring a whistle sample from Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay”. The song also includes samples from Steely Dan’s “Peg” and Sly & The Family Stone’s “Sing A Simple Song”. At the time of its release, the attitude towards sampling was very liberal and the requirement to obtain permission for using famous songs was almost nonexistent.
This song was used on Match of the Day 2 as background music during the showing of Saturday’s goals until the end of the 07/08 season.
