“Eye Know” is a single from De La Soul’s landmark album 3 Feet High and Rising. It peaked at number 14 on the UK singles chart. It was not released as a single in the United States. Released during rap’s Golden Age of 1986-1992, the song is an upbeat, feel-good love jam featuring a whistle sample from Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay”. The song also includes samples from Steely Dan’s “Peg” and Sly & The Family Stone’s “Sing A Simple Song”. At the time of its release, the attitude towards sampling was very liberal and the requirement to obtain permission for using famous songs was almost nonexistent.
