It was first released as the B-side to “Till the End of the Day” and then included on their album The Kink Kontroversy in 1965 (1966 in the US). The song has gained “classic” status and was featured in numerous compilations. It has also been covered by David Bowie in the album Pin Ups, and by Van Halen in the album Diver Down. This was Van Halen’s second cover of a Kinks’ song, with the first being You Really Got Me in 1978. Following the Bowie cover, Pye released the track as a single in November 1973 (Pye 7N 45313 b/w “Lola”) but it did not chart. Supergrass performed the song live at the 1995 Glastonbury Festival.
