“Panic” is a song by the British alternative rock band The Smiths, written by singer Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr. The first recording to feature new member Craig Gannon, “Panic” bemoans the state of contemporary pop music, and implores its listeners to “burn down the disco” and “hang the DJ” in retaliation. “Panic” was released by Rough Trade Records as a non-album single in 1986, reaching number 11 in the UK Singles Chart. This song is maybe my favorite Smiths song, and I really love the smiths. Panic! at the disco was named after this song. I looked it up and Panic is a song about an accident at the Chernobyl power plant and how the pop station announced the disaster and then immediately put on a happy pop song, which was upsetting because Britain was panicking and they didn't want to hear a happy song
